New Skoda SUVs In The Pipeline

Skoda has announced plans to expand its range and produce a VW Touareg 4X4 and a sub Yeti model, both of which could be reaching showrooms in the next two years. Skoda has revealed that there is space in the current range for two new SUVs, one larger and one smaller than the Yeti, but both will need to be compatible with emerging international markets including Russia, China and India.

For the larger SUV, Skoda believes that it should be practical yet attractive, and will be based on the Touareg’s underpinnings but not as luxurious, and will therefore need a more appealing price. This larger SUV will need to succeed where the Yeti fails – in off road driving. While the Yeti is great on road, Skoda needs a serious contender in the off road segment. Bigger wheels and different engine and transmission choices should help Skoda achieve this. Potential names that have been rumoured for this new SUV include the Snowman and Grand Yeti.

While Skoda hasn’t confirmed that the two new cars will be arriving in the next two years; with the VW Group’s stock of parts at the company’s disposal, a two year timeframe is realistic. Before the new models however, there will be a seven seater Yeti released. An electric Citigo is also underway as well as a two cylinder petrol engine under consideration.
With the potential release of so many new and exciting models, the next few years should be busy for Skoda. Perth, Manchester and Sheffield are just some of the towns across the UK where Skoda showrooms will be showcasing the new models once they go on sale. Skoda has ambitious plans to overtake Toyota as the industry’s biggest seller, and hopes to be selling 1.5 million vehicles globally by 2018.
